Why is my prescription acne medicine not working anymore?

So I went to the dermatologist a while back and they gave me this medicine that worked great for a couple months but just like till last month I noticed I was started to break out again and little by little it’s getting worse why is this happening? Is it that I can become immune to the medicine or what?
