Helen Hecker asked:

Almost 100% of people between the ages of twelve and seventeen have at least occasional breakouts of whiteheads, blackheads or a pimple, now and then. There are times when one has to think about alternative, natural, effective treatment methods to get the best cure or solution to their acne, zits, pimples and blackhead problems. By their mid-teens, nearly 35% of teenagers have acne severe enough to require some treatment from a medical professional.

The most common types of pimples are whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. While almost all young people experience acne at least once, it has been reported that 47% of those in their 20s and 30% of those in their 30s had acne. People of all races and ages get acne. Most pimples are found on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. The most common type of acne is acne vulgaris.

Doctors think certain factors might cause or contribute to acne including hormone increases in teenage years, hormone changes in pregnancy, starting or stopping birth control pills, heredity, medicines and greasy make-up. Scientists are looking at ways to prevent plugs and ways to stop testosterone from causing acne, if it truly does. Check your shampoo to make sure it isn’t causing pimples or other breakouts on your forehead. Experts just can’t agree on what causes acne.

One treatment method some people have used is applying cornstarch, egg whites or milk of magnesia as a facial mask. It’s always best to seek non-invasive treatment for any skin condition. Use baking soda carefully as an exfoliator. Stay out of the sun if you’re taking any acne medicines. A skin specialist in New York is now using a combination of red light and blue light therapy to treat severe cases of acne successfully. Coconut oil is one of the best treatments I’ve found for acne.

Popping pimples can cause infection and scarring. Acne scars result from increased tissue formation, response to the inflammation of acne and loss of tissue. A number of treatments are currently available to remove or improve acne scars. Acne scars can give the skin an aging look.

Besides external acne treatment it’s best to work from the inside out too. Whether you eat a natural diet with living fruits and vegetables or eat dead junk food, what you eat may have a direct or indirect affect on the male hormones which may play a part in acne. When you change your diet, your lesions should be getting better within 30 days. People with skin disorders such as acne, rosacea, and psoriasis often suffer from constipation.

Use flaxseed oil or walnut oil in your salad. Eat high-fiber snacks like raw nuts, raw seeds, and dried fruit, such as dates, and figs. Eat at least one organic apple with the skin on every day.

Unclean skin favors the development of pathogenic organisms - the dead cells that continually slough off of the epidermis mix with the secretions of the sweat and sebaceous glands and the dust found on the skin to form a filthy layer on its surface. The skin must be regularly cleaned or it’ll become cracked or inflamed.

And you should be able to get rid of your acne, zits and pimples and their symptoms, providing you’ve removed the cause, so it doesn’t reoccur. Be assured, scientists are constantly looking at new non-invasive ways to treat acne. When it comes to acne, acne prevention is always a better choice than searching for a cure.

If you have acne, you probably fight a battle: how to find good acne medicines? It is common opinion: as if fighting acne wasn’t hard enough, finding a proper acne medicine is another battle itself.

With all the options available on the market - both over-the-counter and prescribed - choosing a good medicine can be very difficult. That’s why it’s so important for you to talk to your doctor before any choice is made. Your doctor can guide you through this search and help you with the treatment.

Acne medicines are always something difficult to choose, because you only will know if they work for your case if you try it. Even if the medicine is prescribed by a doctor you can assure it will fit in your case until you try it.

In addition to that, some concepts about acne medicines are important for you to choose he right one to your case, specially if you have the mild type of acne, which usually doesn’t need a medical orientation.

-The best acne medicines are those ones that treat acne from inside out. Since acne is not only a simple skin condition, it is important to treat it from inside. In general, acne is related to some dysfunction of the organism - hormonal unbalances are the most common causes - and for this reason it is meaningless treating only the skin when the real problem lies on the inside. When acne occurs, it is a sign that something is going wrong.

- The side effects that usually are caused by acne medicines must be taken into account when you decide going under a treatment. The side effects related to acne medicines are the most varied: from a simple headache to the serious liver or kidneys problems. Besides, pregnant women must stop the treatment as soon as she find out she is pregnant and all the women before going under a treatment must take a pregnancy test in order to confirm she is not pregnant. All this care is extremely necessary since some acne medicines can lead to miscarriage and birth defects. However, these care is for people who is under synthetic medicines. The alternative treatments, based on natural medicines, don’t require so many care.

- There are, still, mainly two options for acne medicines.

My doctor mentioned the name of a acne medicine that I would go to next if my current wouldn’t cure my acne. I Forgot the name of it though, I thought she said it was acetone therapy and you would have to take it for 3-6 months and it would pretty much get rid of acne forever. If anyone knows where I could find some information or have taken it please let me know.

I have just started topical acne wash as well as overall gel. With the start of this medication, I have noticed severe greasiness in my hair. Could the two be linked?

M Rochell asked:

Finding the best acne treatments for sensitive skin is a real challenge!  Those of us with sensitive skin often break out into a rash in reaction to the ingredients in many acne skin care products.

Some of the common ingredients that are in most acne treatments such a salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide can cause allergic reactions and skin irritation even for people who don’t normally have sensitive skin.

In addition, researchers have discovered that these ingredients can other health effects on the immune system, and in the organ systems of our bodies.

Salicylic acid in particular is of concern because it is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and where it is transported to many other parts of our bodies.  It is linked to neurological and developmental problems, and so it is not the best ingredient to use for acne treatment for sensitive skin.

What Acne Remedies Can You Use?

Well, those of us who have sensitive skin might not be able to use a lot of the acne remedies that you find at the drugstore, but we DO have a lot of other options.

The key is to learn how clear acne by creating a more holistic, natural acne treatment program that helps to balance the whole body.

You will find as a result that not only is your complexion clearer, but that you feel better and have more energy!

Natural Acne Cures

One of the absolute best acne treatments for sensitive skin is to modify your diet.  I know, it’s not the quickest or easiest method, but it DOES really work and there are even scientific studies that show a 50% decrease in acne simply by eating a healthier diet.

Focus on eating lots of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and foods that are organic and as close to their natural state as possible.  Drink plenty of pure water, and gradually let go of refined and processed foods.  Sugar and caffeine often contribute to acne breakouts, so gradually wean yourself off of these foods and give yourself healthy substitutes.

Another one of the best acne treatments for sensitive skin is to take a look at the ingredients in your skin care products.  Even hypoallergenic skin care products sometimes contain ingredients which cause irritation, allergies or toxic reactions in the body.  Many hypoallergenic products and also natural skin care contain ingredients which can cause rashes, irritation and even acne breakouts.

Using a safe hypoallergenic product line that does not contain toxic ingredients can help to clear acne breakouts.  These are not easy to find yet in stores but as more people are becoming educated about the ingredients in our cosmetics and skin care products, more companies will begin to clean up their product ingredients.

While you are in the process of your natural acne treatment, you will find yourself at times with eruptions and breakouts.  Sometimes when you start eating healthier, drinking more water and using less toxic ingredients, your body goes through a period of cleansing and detoxification. You might feel headachy, or tired, or you might get a fresh batch of pimples.

During this time when your body is cleansing itself, it may be helpful to use a natural acne medicine.  There are herbal acne remedies and Chinese herbal remedies that can help to clear an acne eruption.  Because you have sensitive skin, you’ll need to test it first on the inside of your arm.  If you get a rash on your arm, you will know to NOT use that one!

Homemade Acne Treatments

Some of the best acne treatments for sensitive skin can be made at home!  Some people with sensitive skin find relief using a simple baking soda facial mask.  Others find an oatmeal facial mask soothing and also nourishing for the skin.  There are many other homemade acne treatments you can use such as rosewater and lemon, ginger, or applying a fresh grated potato to the acne outbreaks.

There are many homemade acne treatments that you can choose from.  Once you find a natural acne remedy that doesn’t irritate your skin, use it consistently for at least a few weeks.  It takes time to see results, so do your treatments each day, and at the end of a month you will find yourself with clearer and radiant skin!
